Calculate your impact of switching to Single Use Soap Dispensers

Whos this for?

This calculator is designed for hotels, spas, boutique stays, hospitality businesses or any business that dispenses soap that want to:

  • ✅ Reduce their reliance on single-use plastic amenities
  • ✅ Understand their potential impact on plastic waste and CO₂ emissions
  • ✅ Make informed decisions about switching to refillable dispensers
  • ✅ Track their sustainability goals and communicate them to guests

Whether you’re a small guesthouse or a multi-property hotel group, this tool gives you actionable insights that support both your environmental values and your bottom line

How to use this calculator

Thinking about switching to refillable soap dispensers? This calculator helps you see the real environmental impact of that decision — by showing how many single-use plastic bottles you could eliminate, and how much carbon you could save each year.

🧮 Here’s how it works:

  1. Enter the number of rooms in your hotel or business.
  2. Set your average occupancy rate (%).
  3. Choose how often you currently replace bottles (the default refill frequency).
  4. Select the dispenser types you currently use (e.g. Shampoo, Conditioner, etc.), and the size of those bottles
  5. The calculator estimates:
  • The number of single-use plastic bottles saved per year.
  • The net CO₂ savings from switching to Kuishi refillable glass bottles.

Here you Set Custom Refill Frequencies for Each Product

Maybe you refill your Hand Wash more often than your Conditioner — no problem. You can specify how often you replace each individual product, and the calculator will adjust the results accordingly.

How we calculate your environmental savings

The Kuishi calculator was developed to help hospitality businesses quantify the environmental benefits of switching from single-use plastic bottles to refillable Kuishi dispensers. The results include:

  • Number of plastic bottles saved per year
  • Associated CO₂ emissions reduction
  • A comparison against the impact of using refillable Kuishi bottles

Plastic Bottles Saved

We calculate the number of single-use bottles avoided annually based on:

  • Number of rooms
  • Occupancy rate (%)
  • Refill frequency (how often bottles are replaced)
  • Bottle size (in ml)
  • Dispenser types used (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, hand lotion)

If a user selects a bottle smaller than 250ml, we assume they will switch to the smallest available Kuishi bottle (250ml). Bottles saved = (365 ÷ refill frequency) × occupancy-adjusted rooms × dispenser count.

Emissions from Single-Use

We assume that all single-use bottles come with a disposable pump, as is common in the hospitality industry.

These values include:

  • PET bottle production
  • Transport and disposal
  • Pump production (plastic + spring components)

Sources:

  • PlasticsEurope LCA database (EcoInvent)
  • WRAP UK & DEFRA packaging reports
  • Manufacturer data (Aptar, Silgan, Berry Global
  • Journal of Cleaner Production (LCA of hotel toiletries, 2021)

Kuishi Refillable Bottle CO₂e (Annualised)

Kuishi glass bottles are manufactured once and we assume they are used for at least 5 years, with high-quality reusable pumps.

The data is taken from our own detailed Lifecycle assessment and includes

  • Raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, delivery to the customer
  • End-of-life impact (assumes recycling at 5-year mark)

Net CO₂ Reduction

Net reduction is calculated as:

Total CO₂ from Single-Use Bottles – Total CO₂ from Kuishi Bottles

This gives a conservative estimate of the true environmental savings from switching to refillables.

Additional Notes

Custom refill frequencies can be defined per product in the Advanced section

  • Results are shown per year and rounded to 2 decimal places
  • Assumes 1 dispenser per product per room
  • Occupancy adjusts annual bottle usage proportionally

We use public LCA data and conservative assumptions to avoid overstating environmental claims. If you’d like a full reference sheet or a downloadable version of this methodology, we’re happy to provide it.
